From January 19 to 23, 2026, Brno once again hosted the prestigious EPODES Advanced I (European Project of Development of Epilepsy Surgery) course, which is part of the educational activities of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE Europe). The course offered a five-day intensive program of lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions focused on surgically treatable epilepsy in adults and children.

This year’s edition was attended by 85 participants, 67 of whom were present in Brno and 18 of whom participated online in the theoretical part of the course. The lecturers included 14 experts from various European epilepsy centers.

The program included lectures by renowned experts, interactive discussions, and group work, during which participants presented their own cases from clinical practice.

“I rate the EPODES course very positively, especially thanks to the high-quality lecturers, interactive workshops, and the number of current case studies from clinical practice. I highly recommend participation to any promising epileptologist or neurosurgeon who wants to further develop in this field,” said course participant MUDr. Natália Kostolanská, our colleague from 1. NK FNUSA and Ph.D. student.

Prof. MUDr. Milan Brázdil, Ph.D., FRCP, summarized the course on behalf of the Brno Epileptology Center: “We are pleased that Brno has once again become a place where experts from all over Europe meet and share a common vision for the development of epilepsy surgery. The significance of this course goes beyond the scope of Czech epileptology.”

EPODES 2026 confirmed its important role in European education for epilepsy specialists and brought new ideas to international professional cooperation.
