Autumn Education at the Brno Epilepsy Center

A two-month individual fellowship of a foreign doctor, a two-week EEG course for neurologists, and training in video-EEG monitoring procedures – these are just a few examples of the educational activities at the Brno Epilepsy Center.

The Center is not only a site for clinical practice and research; its physicians are also dedicated to sharing their expertise in epileptology with other medical professionals. Education of doctors, medical trainees, and EEG technologists takes many forms, and the autumn of 2024 was rich in such activities.

Dr. Hnatovska, a neurologist from the Multidisciplinary Hospital for Military Veterans in Odesa, Ukraine, and a PhD student at the Odesa National Medical University, spent two autumn months at the Brno Epilepsy Center deepening her expertise. As part of the European Academy of Neurology’s Clinical Fellowship program (EAN Clinical Fellowship), she was mentored by Assoc. Prof. Doležalová and Prof. Brázdil.

In November, the lecture room and EEG lab of the neurology department were occupied for two weeks by over a dozen Czech and Slovak neurologists taking part in the first part of an intensive course titled Fundamentals of Electroencephalography. Under the guidance of course coordinator MUDr. Novotná and her colleagues from both the adult and pediatric sections of the Center, participants were prepared for the national EEG proficiency certification.

Physicians and EEG technologists from Bratislava visited the Center to consult on the potential expansion of video-EEG monitoring services in Slovakia. Their training in the monitoring process and operation of a video-EEG monitoring unit was led by Mgr. Zlonický, DiS., head EEG technologist.

Further educational activities are planned for spring 2025.
